Gympie, once the small, provincial town just north of Brisbane, is located close to the beautiful Mary Valley and is the gateway to Cooloola Coast, the Great Sandy National Park, Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island. After the discovery of gold in the region in 1867, Gympie became the site of Queensland’s first gold rush. Now it’s the northern commercial centre of the Sunshine Coast boasting a relaxed country lifestyle.

The Gympie Regional Council takes pride in its community and is readily available for support when required. Gympie's numerous parks, gardens and public amenities are scrupulously maintained by Council to the benefit of the town's residents.

Gympie is a surprisingly social city hosting many diverse events throughout the year. Annual events in Gympie include the National Country Music Muster, Gold Rush Festival, Race the Rattler Challenge, Gympie District Show, Bay to Bay Yacht Race at Tin Can Bay, Gympie and District Eisteddfod, Tin Can Bay Seafood Festival and Draught Horse and Heritage Fair.
