Reconciliation Action Plan

QRME has partnered with Griffith University to deliver the university’s rural clinical training, funded by the Commonwealth Government Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training program. As QRME is locally based, locally led and locally governed, it ensures a focused rural stream for the Griffith University health schools.

As such we follow the Reconciliation Action Plan as set by Griffith University and its major themes:

  1. Relationships
  2. Respect
  3. Opportunity

We achieve this by supporting rural doctors, hospitals, general practices and health students in their work and learning in rural communities.

QRME works with the Palm Island Community Company to place Medical Students on the island for their selective rotation providing an emersion experience in Aboriginal Health. 

PNG Health Project

Together with Griffith University Hope4Health Student Club and Ok-Tedi Mining the PNG Health Project was born in 2013. The Project sends medical students to the Western Province of PNG. Their destination is Kiunga, a small village for most but a thriving metropolis for the locals. The Kiunga Hospital can take 60 patients and handle almost any medical problem. The placement offers students the chance to experience the challenges and rewards of practising medicine in a developing country.

Aspire to Health

In collaboration with the Department of Education and Training, QRME invites high school students interested in a Health Career to participate in the Aspire to Health Program. Students will have the opportunity to look inside a working hospital, speak with practising Health Professions and Health Students.

Considering Medicine

QRME also works with High School's near regional training centres to offer high school students the experience of studying medicine at a university level through the Considering Medicine Program. A very popular program runs in the after school hours and allows interested high school students an understanding of the education and training involved as a medical student.
