Professor Scott Kitchener

Scott Kitchener completed the RACGP Family Medicine Training Program in 1992 and continued onto advanced training in Population Health to receive Fellowship in the Faculty of Public Health Medicine (RACP). He has practiced in rural Queensland, NSW and WA as well as in Timor and Bougainville. After completing doctoral studies in primary care of tropical disease he worked on vaccine development in Cambridge then returned to UQ in 2004 teaching in postgraduate medicine and public health. Scott and his family moved back to Toowoomba in 2006 where he worked for Queensland Health developing the role of Director of Rural Medicine on the Darling Downs in addition to part time medical education with QRME (then RRQC). He became full time with QRME in 2008. He also practices at Carbal Aboriginal Medical Centre and at the Oakey Army Base.
Senior Medical Educators
Dr Jeff Thomsett
MBBS, MHSt, FRACGP, FACRRM
Dr Jeff Thomsett is the training adviser for registrars who are working in advanced rural skills post (ARSP for RACGP training) and/or Advanced Specialised Training (AST for ACRRM). He visits many registrars whilst doing ECT visits. He has been involved in training GP Registrars for over 20 years, as both a GP Supervisor and a Medical Educator. As a senior medical educator he brings a wealth of experience to QRME having worked in rural practice, both hospital and private, since his graduation. He has spent time at Christmas Island, Mareeba, Karratha, Roma, Dalby and Oakey. Jeff was former Secretary of the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland (RDAQ) and Mentor for TROHPIQ (Southern Queensland’s Rural Health Club).
Dr Murray Towne
MBBS, FRACGP
Dr Murray Towne is the chief adviser for recognition of prior learning, remediation planning and diversity in practice alternatives.
After graduation in 1978, Murray worked in a small Queensland rural hospital for 10 years. This was followed by 16 years in his own General Practice with a GP Supervisor role. This practice eventually evolved into a 6 doctor Medical Centre. Murray currently does consultant education for QRME and also is involved in his local Division of General Practice.
Dr James (Jim) McConochie
MBBS (Qld)
Dr McConochie is heavily involved with the PGPPP education program. He does many ECT and site visits. Jim also works as a General Practitioner in a privately owned group teaching practice in Toowoomba. He was Previously medical superintendent at Dirranbandi and Hervey Bay Hospitals. He has an interest in Tropical Health and Infectious disease, developed whilst in Torres Strait.
Dr Kay Brumpton
MBBS, DRANZCOG, FRACGP, FARGP, FACRRM, MClinEd
Dr Kay Brumpton is the Director of AGPT Education and Training. She works with the team of medical educators to implement the curriculum from both RACGP and ACRRM.
She works part-time as a Senior Medical Officer in Emergency. Prior to having kids she worked in remote and rural North Queensland as a GP, MSRPP and MO for RFDS.

Dr Karen Quinn
MB ChB (UK) FRACGP FACRRM DCH DFFP Grad Cert Med Ed.
Dr Quinn is the medical educator who supports registrars in Central Queensland. She is a busy mum who wears many hats as a GP and SMO Emergency, Hepatitis Clinic, Sexual Health and Breast Screen. She has also previously worked with RFDS.
